Harambe and Juma

Picture
Picture
Harambe was a 17-year old lowland silverback gorilla that was shot dead at the Cincinnati Zoo in 2016 after a young child managed to get into his enclosure - was killing him absolutely necessary? Do humans outweigh animals in importance?
Juma was a captive jaguar who was killed after participating in an Olympic Torch event in Manaus, Brazil. This happened only 2 months after the incident with Harambe.
"After the incident, the Olympic organizing committee in Rio said it was a mistake to display the torch, “a symbol of peace and unity,” alongside a “chained wild animal.” (NYMag, 2016)

Beware of everything you read. Of everything you have been voluntarily fed via Tell A Vision. Question the deaths. Question how this country and this world has functioned so well around racism and fuel of hatred. Analyze and question everything. Channel inwards. We have been lied to, over and over again throughout time.

It’s time to wake up.

In these particular watercolor paintings of a Peregrine Falcon and Blue Jay... A fellow creative suggested that I insert and hide words inside of the feathers— since some of my scribbles look like they might be spelling out a word. So I did. There are 3 words hidden in the Peregrine Falcon one and 2 in the Blue Jay one. Feel free to grab a magnifying glass and have fun.
